With a solid foundation in mechanical engineering and a specialization in thermodynamics and combustion, Gérard has been at the forefront of developing innovative technologies and driving transformative projects that address critical environmental challenges.

In his leadership role, Gérard has been instrumental in overseeing high-impact projects, including the modernization of the municipal waste incinerator for the City of Québec. Under his guidance, the facility was upgraded to meet stringent government regulations for emissions, such as carbon monoxide, metals, and other pollutants. Gérard has also played a pivotal role in international waste management initiatives. One of his standout projects involved the development of a technical landfill site in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, designed to address the region’s daily generation of 1,400 to 1,600 tons of waste, 70% of which is organic. Gérard proposed a state-of-the-art environmental complex incorporating:
  • Technical landfill cells
  • Biogas pumping stations

  • Electricity generation facilities
  • Biomedical waste treatment installations
This comprehensive solution exemplifies his ability to create sustainable, region-specific strategies that balance operational needs with environmental stewardship. Throughout his career, Gérard has managed and directed large-scale turnkey projects in air pollution control, biomass gasification, and energy-from-waste systems. Notable accomplishments include leading a $25 million biomass gasification power plant project in French Guiana and developing advanced gas treatment systems for biomass-powered diesel engines. As a former Vice President at Biothermica International Inc., Gérard spearheaded cutting-edge advancements in pollution control and energy production technologies. His strategic vision and technical expertise have earned him a reputation as a trailblazer in the fields of air quality management and renewable energy. Committed to knowledge sharing and industry innovation, Gérard has taught university-level courses on air pollution control and energy production and has presented at numerous technical conferences. His contributions are further highlighted by the industrial patents he holds, reflecting his ongoing dedication to advancing sustainable engineering practices.
